Introduction

Amy the writer of the book "Red" talks about all the types of girls in her book. She talks about how she got each girl to write something that meant something to them or how they felt about life. She didn't think that she would get such a in depth response. She wanted to share each girls story, yet some of them are changed to keep the girls and others from being revealed. Amy continues to go on about each girl and how everyone has something to say even if they are teenagers.

Seeing the World

Our world has become a throwaway society. When we don’t want something we pick it up and throw it away and go out to buy new. While working in a restaurant as one of my summer jobs I watched full salads, to half eaten hamburgers get thrown away while people in Africa were starving. I’ve watched friends and family get divorced and I’ve seen toys and objects that could be easily fixed tossed in the trash can. I couldn’t believe my eyes how easily people let things go, they just toss them away with no care in the world. My family has been lucky enough to have stuck together through thick and thin. We stand by each other and support each other like a team.

Many people think that all teens do is think about themselves, which well for the most part is true, but I’m not like most teens. I hate technology, I never go on Myspace or Facebook and I barley watch TV. Yeah I have a phone and yeah I’m often times on the computer looking up random things that come to my mind, but for the most part I rather be outside in the bright sun. I love the outside and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else during the day. The sun beaten down on your face as you run around taking in the fresh air. I love to live and cherish every moment I have which makes me an individual in this throwaway society. Instead of throwing things away I try to fix them, I never give up, and even when times get tough I stand strong.

Being There

A group of young people talk about the difference between Facebook and Myspace. The kids feel that Facebook is more comforting and safer then myspace. The article goes on to talk about how Facebook has status, in which a person can tell you what they are doing every minute of the day. It also goes into detail explaining what is cool and not cool on each of the sites.

Kelsie McCue is Looking Forward. 11:53am

I find myself wondering why people use social networks, for the social interactions of being able to talk to your friend online. Or is it the sensation you get when you have a new message or comment? I used to love the idea of going on the computer and looking up friends and snooping around looking at what is going on in their lives but soon I began to feel like it was useless and a waste of time. I would run home waiting to see what I could find or write about on my Myspace page. I began to rely on it to talk to my friends, or even get close to people I just meet. Then one weekend I went on a vacation over the summer and I was unable to use the computer to go on Myspace for several days. I felt so free being able to talk and interact with my family and friends. I love the outdoors and being able to communicate with people outside and not through technology. When I got home I didn’t really care to go on Myspace and see what people had to say, yet instead I used my phone to call friends and go out to see different places, instead of sitting on the computer talking about them. Now days I never go on, maybe it’s because I’m too lazy to comment people back, or the fact that I would have to stare at the computer screen for another 4 hours once I signed on, or maybe it’s just because I rather not fulfill my life with drama but instead be outside socializing with my friends without technology
