Beyond Ordinary

June 26, 2008

Day by day we pass by a world of reality

I finally found the Remedy, for our morality

Many people might say there is No Such Thing

No possible way to live in a dream, even if it is for only a day

But they are wrong, I’m Just a Girl yet I’ve experienced a dream

I walked up the steps and into a ship filled with awaiting adventures

Tick, Tick Boom and the fun began

There was No Doubt in my mind

That for the next few days it was going to be Nothing but a Good Time

Lost in a dream of exaggeration

It all seemed too fake yet I’m Real

We were just Stupid girls and boys looking for adventure

Every night we couldn’t help but Shake It and Just Dance

Time stood still and the world disappeared

It didn’t matter what people thought we were having fun

We couldn’t help it; it was Poison to our souls

The day came, there was No Rain

We were off for new adventures and back to reality

The Starting Line

Almost Home I thought

Just Walk Away but how could I, a dream made into reality

Will never be forgotten but instead stuck on a Wonder Wall

Beyond Ordinary

June 26, 2008

Looking back over the past few years, I couldn’t think of what I would like to tell a story about. I thought and thought and thought till finally I remember that over the past summer I was lucky enough to go on a 10 day cruise to Alaska with my family and best friend Valerie. We’ve been best friends since we were 5 listen to songs together like “Who Do You Think You Are” by Spice Girls to “I’m Just a Girl” by No Doubt. So when I found out we were going on a cruise together I couldn’t imagine anyone else I would rather spend 10 days with on a cruise.

We finally arrived to the port with our 5 bags and giant pillows. We checked in took our picture and with giant butterflies in our stomach walked up the ramp and into the giant cruise ship. We walked inside and couldn’t believe our eyes, we looked at each other and our jaws dropped. I felt like bursting out in song singing “No Such thing” By John Mayor. We asked our parents if we could explore the ship and with giant smiles they replied yes. We felt like detectives scouting ever room that we were a loud to go in. We found the night club, the casino, and then the buffet. All you can eat any time, my eyes opened wide and my mouth started watering. I could smell the delicious cheese pizza being made and the giant 4 layer chocolate cakes waiting for me to eat.

We kept exploring and meet a few friends. Those friends seemed to expand every night till we finally had a little crew of kids. Every night we all would meet up after dinner to run around and dance the night away. Thinking back on it now the song “Tick, Tick Boom” by The Hives would have fit in perfectly. The days went by fast over all the fun we were having. The last day came and we all got each other’s phone numbers and hugged goodbye. As we road home I listened to songs like “Nothing but a Good Time” by Poison and “Almost Home” by The Academy Is. Now days I rarely talk to the friends I meet on the cruise but when we do we can’t help but think back on how much fun we had on our 10 day adventure.

Life and Myth

Summary:
In the short story "Making Lives into Stories" by Dan McAdams he discusses what a psychologists is and what they do. He explains that each person he interviews he can tell a story or myth about them which help him understand their traits. Dan speaks about one of the patients he has named Margret who had a hard child hood but used that to her advantage helping other women out and giving foundation to her daughter. Dan also talks about the different ways a story can come together and by humans explaining their memories and life they are creating a story for themselves. In the story they explain their child hood which is the beginning. Then they move to what has gone on as they have been growing up. Then it ends to where you are today, no matter if your 10 or 50. It seems as thou every ones life tells a different story depending on what fiat has in store for you.

What I Learned:
By reading this short story by Dan McAdams i realized that stories have a lot to do with our daily lives and how we live them. If we spend each day forgetting our past, we will have no memories for when we become older. Yet if we tell our story as though we are a character in our own book we begin to watch ourselves unravel and tell us our true identity. The more we use our past as a guide, the more we can reflect on ourselves to find the true person inside you. Just like a story a human has a beginning middle and end, as well as characters and conflicts just like our daily lives due. No one may ever know why things happen to us but maybe we can help other people learn from our mistakes by telling them our stories and memories.

I Could Tell You Stories

Summary:
The passage "i could tell stories" by Patricia Hampl describes her memory of when she was a little girl and 1st learned to play the piano. She describes in great detail the teacher as well as the keys that she had to learn. Hampl is a memoir writer in which she takes memories and transforms them into stories. Some are often times exaggerated with items and artifacts that she wishes were actually in her memory so that the story is more interesting. She uses adjectives to brighten her stories to get the readers caught into her story and in the memory. Hampl emphasis on the fact that everyone should remember their memories or history because if they don't it would be like your life never happened at all.

What I Learned:
In the course of reading Patricia Hampl's story I learned that remembering your memories can be very important in your way of growing as a person. Writing a story about them or making a film of them could be very interesting, even if you give it a little exaggeration through out the story. Not everything in your memory should be false but it should be told in a way of show and tell. Giving the reader a way to peer into your life and remember your pass and what you have gone through. Hampl said that when we look into a picture we don't just see our mom standing there smiling or us younger then before but instead the value of that day. Each picture tells a story and the memories we have from those days. Forgetting your past is almost like forgetting you weren't born so remembering your memories of today and tomorrow will help you remember your life story especially when your older.
